SURYA TO FEATURE SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDED LIGHTING COLLECTION AT WINTER MARKETS 12.28.15

Surya will preview during the winter markets a specially-curated selection of new floor and table lamps – all recent additions to the brand’s popular and fast-growing lighting line. This latest introduction marks the largest expansion of Surya’s lighting collection since the introduction of the category two years ago.

Spanning a broad spectrum of lifestyles and price points, the newest designs feature bases in rich materials and finishes – including shell mosaic inlay, marbled looks, crystal, antiqued metallics, cut-out designs and colored glass – along with shades ranging from linen to metallic looks. To highlight the expanded collection, Surya will display its lighting offering in dedicated galleries within its Atlanta, Dallas and Las Vegas showrooms.

“Lighting is such an integral part of home decor and we really wanted to step it up not only in terms of the variety of lighting options we offer but also the creativity and uniqueness that we bring to our designs,” said Satya Tiwari, president Surya. “Our product development and sourcing teams have done a great job of bringing the latest trends into our line in a way that will make it even easier to create a cohesive, beautifully appointed look for any space. We think these new designs will truly resonate with our designer and retailer customers and look forward to sharing them at market.”

Also being shown at market are several new rug collections and line extensions.

Hand tufted in India of 100% wool with a medium pile, the Castello collection combines traditional patterns that have been opened up and increased in scale with an updated palette of blues, grays and taupes to create a fresh, modern look with a nod to the past.

The geode-inspired Gypsy collection artfully pairs abstract, organic shapes with a muted, multi-hued palette to bring a relaxed, contemporary look to living spaces. Hand-tufted of 100% wool with a medium pile, the designs incorporate hard twist texture and loop accents for added dimensionality.

Natural fiber goes modern in the latest additions to the Seaport collection. In these hand woven designs of jute and viscose, Bauhaus-inspired geometric shapes accented with pops of primary color create looks that are at once bold and understated.

Market attendees are invited to explore the new lighting and rug collections, along with all of the brand’s latest offerings, including expanded Made to Order Art and Rug Programs, at any of Surya’s showrooms. All products displayed will be ready to ship within the winter market season, with the exception of the previewed lighting designs, which are estimated to arrive in inventory in early spring 2016.

SURYA TO SHOWCASE “HARMONIOUS” COLOR PAIRING AT WINTER MARKETS 12.04.15

Surya will spotlight this winter market season a broad-reaching assortment of rugs and accessories in the dual hues announced today by color authority Pantone as the 2016 Pantone® Color of the Year. Always on top of fashion and home decor trends, Surya offers a number of products in the chosen hues – Serenity and Rose Quartz – which, according to Pantone, are a “harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace.” These products, along with all other items displayed in Surya’s showrooms, will be in stock and ready to ship during the winter season.

For home interiors, the welcoming combination of Serenity and Rose Quartz reflects a focus on well-being and the desire for more calming hues that create a connected sense of space. When used alone, each shade holds its own, while the colors, when paired together, create a counterbalance that imparts a note of playful sophistication. The adaptable hues also work well with other shades and as subtle accent colors that accentuate pattern, texture and finish – making them a good choice for rugs, pillows, bedding and other textiles.

“The move to softer, more tranquil colors that provide a counterpoint to the business and complexity of our lives has been trending during the past year,” said Lynne Meredith, vice president of product development, Surya. “Anticipating the growing prominence of these soothing hues, our product development team has incorporated into our offering lots of pastels and softly muted shades, echoing the longing for balance and peace of mind. Lending both warmth and coolness, these colors play well together and create a versatile palette that, while dual in nature, imparts a feeling of wholeness.”

Winter market attendees are invited to visit Surya’s showrooms, where a specially curated selection of rugs, pillows, wall decor, lighting, bedding and other home accessories in Serenity, Rose Quartz and complementary hues will be artfully displayed alongside hundreds of other products in a wide range of styles and price points.

SURYA’S MILES FOR MEALS CAMPAIGN RAISES $75K FOR AKSHAYA PATRA SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM 11.30.15

Surya achieved another milestone during its fourth annual ‘Miles for Meals’ campaign, reaching $75,000 in donations for Akshaya Patra, the world’s largest NGO-run school lunch program. As a result of the fundraising effort, 5,000 school children living in northern India – including children from the villages where Surya’s 50,000+ weaver community resides – will receive daily hot lunches for a year.

To help raise awareness for Akshaya Patra and the Miles for Meals campaign, 60 Surya employees participated in a half marathon in early October. In addition, Surya employees across the company raised funds through creative initiatives, including a pancake breakfast, international lunch, sale of hand-crafted items, raffles and themed contests. A number of Surya customers also donated to the campaign, including members of Surya’s customer loyalty program – Surya Rewards– who donated their Surya Points earned in September to the campaign to feed an additional 335 children for a year. To date, Surya Rewards donations have helped to feed 1,230 school children.

“It is extremely gratifying, and humbling, to make it possible for so many children to not only receive access to daily nutritious meals but also reap the invaluable benefits of an education,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Hunger should never be a barrier to fulfilling one’s potential and Akshaya Patra continues to do an amazing job in helping to reduce poverty and improve the lives of children and their families throughout rural India. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of everyone who has contributed to this important cause.”

Since its inception in 2012, Surya’s Miles for Meals program has raised more than $215,000 for Akshaya Patra. The organization delivers a hot, nutritious midday meal to 1.5 million children daily, with the donor’s share of just $15 feeding one child at school for an entire academic year.

“It takes so little to support a child who is hungry for an education and eager to make it in this world,” added Emily Rosenbaum, CEO of Akshaya Patra USA. “The annual Miles for Meals campaign continues to exceed expectations, bringing us ever closer to our goal of ending childhood hunger. We are truly thankful for Surya’s ongoing commitment to creating a brighter future for thousands of children and their families in India.”

SURYA PRESIDENT SATYA TIWARI JOINS AKSHAYA PATRA USA ADVISORY BOARD 10.19.15

Satya Tiwari, president of Surya, has been named to the Akshaya Patra USA Advisory Board. Akshaya Patra runs one of the world’s largest school meal programs, serving 1.5 million children in rural India hot, nutritious lunches each day, encouraging them to attend school and giving them the opportunity for a better future.

In his role on the six-member advisory board, Satya will work to expand the reach of the school lunch program to serve the communities in northern India where more than 50,000 Surya artisans live. Through the addition of a new kitchen near Varanasi, India, Satya aims to provide the children of Surya’s weavers with access to the nutrition and education needed to help them lead successful lives and break free from the cycle of poverty.

“Satya’s enthusiasm to build and serve the dreams of others through his support for Akshaya Patra is truly inspiring,” said Emily Rosenbaum, CEO of Akshaya Patra USA. “We are so honored that he has chosen to be part of the Akshaya Patra movement to eliminate childhood hunger and promote universal education.”

Satya, who himself grew up in a small village in northeastern India, experienced firsthand the health and educational challenges encountered in rural areas. In 2012, he set out to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children and their families, pledging to make an annual financial contribution on Surya's behalf to Akshaya Patra. Surya’s “Miles for Meals” initiative was launched soon thereafter to raise additional funds for the organization via participation by Surya employees in an annual half marathon event. To date, Miles for Meals fundraising efforts have generated $140K in donations for the innovative lunch program.

“In the almost four years that Surya has partnered with Akshaya Patra, I’ve witnessed the amazing things that passion, diligence and purpose can accomplish, and that’s inspired me to do more,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Making financial contributions is important, but it’s even more important to roll up your sleeves to make sure that those contributions are achieving the best results possible. I’m honored to join the Akshaya Patra Advisory Board and look forward to working with this game-changing organization to help remove the barrier of hunger one meal at a time.”

Surya’s 2015 Miles for Meals campaign, which runs through Oct. 31, 2015, is aiming to raise $75K for Akshaya Patra, which will feed 5,000 children for the entire year. Just $15 feeds a single child for a year. Donations to the campaignare tax-deductible and can be made via: www.foodforeducation.org/campaign/miles-meals-2015.
