SURYA COLLABORATES WITH DESIGNER AND ARTIST SHELL RUMMEL ON NEW RUG COLLECTION 3.22.16

Surya is set to unveil at High Point Market a new line of rugs by designer and watercolor artist Shell Rummel. Hand tufted of wool with a medium pile, the designs feature subtle organic shapes and quietly elegant looks inspired by elements found in nature. Aptly named Natural Affinity, the collection pairs a softly muted palette in a mix of cool and warm hues with rich texture and dimensionality, evoking a sense of fluidity and rhythmic movement well suited to contemporary spaces.

“I have a deep reverence for the natural world and am drawn to the delicate patterns revealed in the ordinary, such as the lines left in the sand as the tide recedes or the smooth edges of pebbles,” said Shell Rummel, designer. “My designs originate as hand painted watercolors, so there is an inherent translucence and soothing, graceful quality to my work that will appeal to those who value fine art and enjoy inspired design in their surroundings.”

For more than 20 years, Shell Rummel has enjoyed a successful career in the fine art and design fields. Since the launch of a licensing division in 2012, the Shell Rummel brand has grown to encompass a variety of categories, including area rugs, bedding and bath textiles and accessories, interior paint palettes, stationery and gift items, craft papers, fabrics and an extensive portfolio of fine art.

“With their intrinsic softness and painterly hand, Shell Rummel’s designs speak to that place within us that desires a connection with nature and a respite from the busyness of the everyday world,” said Lynne Meredith, vice president of product development, Surya. “Shell brings a fresh, signature look to the Surya line, and we look forward to sharing her designs with market attendees.”

Added Rummel, “Surya is one of those rare visionary companies that encourages the collaborative process and empowers its designers to imagine and bring to life collections that are not only stunningly beautiful, but also impeccably crafted. I’m honored to work with the Surya team and look forward to a lasting creative partnership where I can showcase my gentle aesthetic through a variety of products and designs.”

Market attendees are invited to view the new rug collection at Showplace 4100 – open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, beginning Friday, April 15. Market visitors who schedule an appointment with their Surya sales specialist at www.surya.com/market-registration by Monday, April 11 will receive 10 percent off their market order (no minimum).

SURYA TO CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF PASSION, INNOVATION AND STYLE DURING HIGH POINT MARKET 3.17.16

Marking four decades in the home furnishings industry, Surya is proud to announce the celebration of its 40th anniversary. To commemorate this important milestone, the company will hold a series of events, contests and promotions throughout the year. The anniversary festivities will kick off with a special High Point Market celebration, set to take place in Surya’s flagship showroom (Showplace 4100) on Sunday, April 17 beginning at 6 p.m.

Founded by Surya Tiwari in 1976, Surya got its start as a small maker of hand-knotted rugs with a mission to preserve traditional artisan craft and create a better life for families in rural India. Surya’s son, Satya Tiwari, was appointed president in 2006 and, soon thereafter, engineered an industry-changing strategy to tap the underserved market of independent furniture dealers and interior designers by providing them with an entry into the emerging home accessories category. In the past several years, the company has extended its reach to additional channels, including the contract and outdoor segments.

A forerunner in innovation, Surya has incrementally added new product categories each year since 2010 – expanding from rugs to pillows, throws, wall decor, accent furniture, lighting, decorative accents and bedding – providing retailers and designers with access to 50,000+ coordinating accessories for every lifestyle and price point. This forward thinking approach has been instrumental in Surya’s growth and, today, the company is a recognized leader in the home furnishings industry.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all of our valued customers who have put their trust in Surya during the past 40 years and continue to inspire us to greater heights,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Our customers are the reason we strive to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the home decor market, and we never take them for granted. We know we must earn their business each and every day through hard work, determination and a passionate commitment to help them succeed – that’s what drives us. We can’t wait to see what the next 40 years will bring.”

With more than 15,000 customers, Surya continues to achieve significant double-digit digit revenue growth, reaching $100 million in sales in 2015, and earning a spot on Inc. Magazine’s list of America’s fastest growing privately held companies for the fifth consecutive year. In May, the company will move into a new, one-million-square-foot headquarters and distribution center in Cartersville, Ga. – providing a new home for its 400+ employees and bringing 200 new jobs to north Georgia.

Market attendees are invited to visit Showplace 4100 (open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, beginning Friday, April 15) to explore Surya’s latest product offerings. Market visitors who schedule an appointment with their Surya sales specialist at www.surya.com/market-registration by Monday, April 11 are eligible to receive 10 percent off their market order (no minimum).

SURYA EXPANDS CONTRACT DESIGN OFFERING TO REACH BROADER COMMERCIAL SEGMENT 3.04.16

Surya has renamed its hospitality division Surya Contract, reflecting the division’s strong growth and recent expansion into the larger commercial arena. Formerly known as Surya Hospitality, the commercial arm of the Surya brand will continue to serve the hospitality market, while extending its scope to include office spaces, retail, healthcare and senior living settings, educational institutions and other commercial environments.

Since establishing its hospitality division in late 2013, Surya has gained significant momentum in its contract business, providing area rugs and other accessories for a wide range of properties and resorts, including those under the Disney, Hilton, Marriott, Renaissance and Wyndham nameplates. The division also works with some of the leading global design firms, including Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), Gensler and Forrest Perkins.

“While hospitality will remain a core focus of our business, moving into additional areas within the contract world was a natural next step for us,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “We understand that many design firms manage multiple types of projects and, by diversifying, we will be able to optimally address the design needs of firms of all types and sizes.”

Surya Contract offers a growing mix of custom options, including made to order rug and art programs that offer virtually limitless design flexibility. Designers also have access to thousands of in-stock Surya accessories across multiple product categories, styles, constructions and price points – providing a convenient solution for projects with tight timeframes.

Added Tom Etheridge, vice president, Surya Contract. “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for designers to create contract spaces that are not only highly functional but also relaxing, inviting and even fun. That’s why we take a very holistic approach to design, developing contract grade rugs, lighting, art and pillows that are as visually impressive as they are durable and comfortable. We’re excited about this next chapter of our evolution.”

Surya will exhibit its contract offering at BDwest from March  31 - April 1 in San Diego (booth 511), and at HD Expo, set to take place May 4 - 6 in Las Vegas (booth 7117).
