SURYA HOLDS RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR NEW ONE-MILLION-SQUARE-FOOT HEADQUARTERS

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal among speakers

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — May 10, 2016 — Surya celebrated the official opening of its new corporate office space and distribution center with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house held onsite on Monday, May 9. More than 150 guests attended the event, which featured comments from Commissioner Chris Carr of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and Commissioner Steve Taylor of Bartow County, followed by a special address from guest of honor, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.

The new facility, located north of Atlanta in Cartersville, Ga., includes 81,000 square feet of office space and 955,000 square feet of warehouse space, providing the home accessories company with more than double the warehouse capacity of its Calhoun, Ga. location. Surya already has one of the largest inventories and fastest fulfillment rates in the home decor industry, with most in-stock products shipping within 48 hours. The expansion and new state-of-the-art logistics center will enable the company to further increase operational efficiencies as it serves its growing base of more than 15,000 retailer and designer customers.

“When I joined my family’s business in 2004, I had a lot of dreams and ambition,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Not only did I want to give small, independent furniture retailers a way to enter the home accessories business, but I also wanted to create jobs and make a lasting positive impact on the community, both locally and globally. When I reflect on how far we’ve come in the 40 years since my father, Surya Tiwari, founded Surya to create a better life for families in rural India, I am humbled and deeply grateful. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to start the next phase of this amazing journey.”

Surya has grown organically from $2.7M in sales in 2004 to $111M in 2015 and has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing privately held companies for five consecutive years, earning a spot on the prestigious Inc. 5000 Honor Roll. As part of its expansion, Surya plans to add an estimated 200 new jobs within the next few years.

“North Georgia is a great place to do business,” said Chris Carr, commissioner, Georgia Department of Economic Development. “The area boasts a pro-business environment, top-notch talent and a highly-connected logistics network—among other assets. Companies who come here are successful and continue to grow. We congratulate Satya Tiwari and the entire Surya team on this important milestone in the company’s evolution, and we look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow here.”

Surya’s facility in Calhoun, Ga. will continue to be used for production of the company’s Made to Order rugs and for warehousing a portion of its more than 50,000 rugs and home accessories.
